Description
If we had to imagine a personification of the city of Lucca, we should probably think of an elegant and
sophisticated young lady, with a few drops of blue blood. We would thus be thinking of Ilaria, who has
in fact represented the city for centuries, in her immobile and austere – yet vital and refined – position.
To find a new way of narrating Ilaria was by no means easy; it was a challenge that required the
experience and ability of Nino Migliori, whose photos have succeeded in showing her in a new light.
And this is all about light: a light artistically orchestrated so as to delineate new views of the mon
ument, of the serene and noble lineaments, of the studied details, of the structure’s precious but delicate
lateral decorations. Such choices recount something well known as a new story, in accordance with an
approach that has convinced the Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca Foundation to support the publication of
this catalogue, the necessary complement to an exciting and most unusual exhibition, one that is capable
of saying something that is different, original and genuine
